Adobe Flash, long a mainstay of the internet, is currently in a peculiar position. It has been suggested by professionals and developers that Adobe Flash should be abandoned.

Flash is resource-intensive and insecure when contrasted to HTML5 and some other online technologies. However, the Flash phasing-out process has been sluggish.

The creation of alternatives for Flash-based services and utilities costs money, time, and effort. Though, there are many flash player alternatives developed recently.

This adds some uncertainty with outdated systems like Flash when it comes to current operating systems like Windows 10, which comes equipped with a new web browser like Microsoft Edge.

While others don’t function properly, some do. Even if you attempted to download Adobe Flash in Windows 10, you might have discovered that it still doesn’t perform.

This article examines some of the steps you can take to activate Flash in Windows 10 and fix typical problems you could encounter.

Quick Ways to Fix the Flash Player

Here are some of the handy and easy fixes you can perform to solve the flash player problem on your Windows 10 system.

Adjust the settings in the Microsoft Edge

Thankfully, Microsoft began including Adobe Flash Player by default in its web browser in Windows 8 and has kept doing so in the most recent version of Windows 10.

If you use Edge and encounter the issue, it might just be disabled. Follow these steps to perform this setting.

    1. Open the More actions menu in the top right corner of the Edge browser.
    1. Now, scroll down and select the View advanced options menu.
    1. Then turn on Adobe Flash Player to change that.
    1. Refresh the website or shut down Microsoft Edge and then restart it.
    1. You might need to restart your computer on occasion.

It’s possible that Flash content isn’t loading if there are no apparent indications on the page that Flash needs to be enabled but you still feel like there is some missing content.

This may be by design; as a security measure, Microsoft limits the use of Flash whenever possible. So, if a web page merely contains a puzzling symbol to welcome you, don’t be confused.

Instead, perform the below quick steps.

    1. Click the puzzle icon after glancing at the address bar.
    1. From this point, you can decide whether you want to permit Adobe Flash to always run on the website you are visiting or only once.

Update or repair the Microsoft Edge browser

You receive Adobe Flash updates through Windows Update because Microsoft integrated Adobe Flash into Windows. Therefore, you probably need to install an update if you’ve tried everything listed above and Flash is still refusing to load in Microsoft Edge.

Refer to these steps and follow them to perform the update. Launch Windows Update through these steps.

    1. Go to the Start menu on your Windows system.
    1. Type Settings in it and hit Enter.
    1. A Settings window will appear.
    1. In it, choose the Update and security option.
    1. Go to Windows updates and check for the latest flash updates.
    1. If there is a new update for Flash, download it and install it.
    1. Installing Flash Player upgrades can occasionally prove difficult, even with Windows Update.
    1. You can manually download Flash Player’s update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Also, you might want to try to repair or reset Microsoft Edge if you still have trouble viewing Flash content.

Adjust the settings for other browsers

To use with the Edge browser, Windows 10 comes preinstalled with Adobe Flash. You must manually enable, download, and install Adobe Flash if you use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome,  or another web browser.

When visiting a website in Chrome that uses Flash follow these steps.

    1. Click Site settings from the Secure menu to the left of the address bar.
    1. Scroll down and choose Allow after clicking the Flash list box.
    1. You most likely need to update Flash if it still does not function.
    1. Enter – chrome:/components into the address bar of Chrome and press Enter.
    1. Select Check for the Update under Flash Player as you continue to scroll down.

When visiting a website in Mozilla Firefox that uses Flash follow these steps.

    1. First, make sure Firefox has Flash enabled.
    1. Go to the Open menu option.
    1. Then move to Add-ons>Plugins.
    1. Now, click on the Preferences for Shockwave Flash option.
    1. Select the Choose Change when this add-on runs option.
    1. Then choose the Always Activate option.
    1. Users must go to Adobe’s download page to get the most recent versions of their particular web browsers in order to update Flash on Firefox.
    1. There you will find the latest version of Flash, install it and enjoy the Flash player on your system.

    Conclusion

This article essentially covers the fundamentals of getting Flash to function in your Windows 10 web browser. Particularly as HTML5 and newer online standards gain traction, Flash is frequently regarded as an insecure solution. However, software with such a large user base as Flash takes a very long time to become obsolete.
