OVERVIEW:
If you look around yourself, you can see the entire Kangra district from one side of the summit and the snow-capped Dhauladhar ranges from the other. Rich oak, pine, and deodar forests along the trail.
There are a lot of places nearby which you can visit before or after you have completed your long and a little-tiring trek, like- Bhagsu waterfall, Namgyal Monastery, Guna Devi temple and many more.
And here comes the twist, there is more to Triund trek for the trekkers who want to explore more. There is a place commonly called as snowline, where there is a glacier, the Laka glacier, where you can go if you are willing to see more beautiful places. While trekking towards the Laka glacier, you will be walking on patches of snow, that’s one hell of an experience.
The main route of this trek goes from Triund, so you’ll be able to enjoy two majestic places in a single go.
Quick itinerary
Dharamkot is the base of your trek, you will be starting form here. The trail is only 8 Kms long to Triund top and will take an approximated time of 4-5 hours in which you will be going through dense forests. You can observe the most breathtaking sunset of your life if you climb to the summit of Triund by dusk. After viewing the Triund sunset, you will experience peace. Afterwards you’ll be setting your camps up and stay under the gazing sky studded with a lot of twinkling stars.You may enjoy the breathtaking dawn over Triund with your loved ones in the early morning hours.
The sunrise is more valuable than 1,000 Instagram likes. After seeing the sunrise, now you’ll be heading towards the Laka glacier. The trek from Triund top to snowline is 6 Kms. The trek would take you an approximated time of 2 hours. If the weather is good, you can also go t the Lahesh caves. So, Laka is a glacier, it will all be snowy around you. Enjoy your stay around snow. Play with the snow, build yourself a snow man and throw snow balls at each other. You’ll be staying at the Laka glacier for the night.
The next day, wake up to beautiful snow and snow-capped mountains around you. Have a whole-hearted meal and descend towards the base of our trek, Dharamkot. Your trek ends here.
Most suitable time to undertake Laka Trek
Triund trek is accessible to people through the whole year. It depends on your mood and what kind of weather you would want to enjoy.
May and June. These are the months, when you will witness clear skies and complete green landscapes around you. The trees are laden with green leaves and the trail is laden with lush green grass. The sunset and the sunrise will be as beautiful as ever. The snow of the glacier would be shining under the direct sun, that would directly shine in your eyes, making this trek 100 times more beautiful.
November to January. These are the months when everything is covered under the soft blanket of fresh snow. You will be seeing a pure white blanket of snow over the Laka glacier and Triund, and you will love this change in scenery. During winters, Laka trek is considered one of the best winter treks in the Himalayan region. The weather will be cold, the sky might or might not be sunny, the night sky will be star-studded and the floor will be white. During this time, trek from Triund to Laka Glacier will be a little tougher, as fresh snow has been sprinkled and you might not know when the snow pours again.
October is considered one of the best months to complete the Laka Trek because the monsoon has just caused the mountains to look totally green. The landscape is foggy, the sunsets, the sunrise all are covered in fog. The Laka glacier has also been freshly showered, and the snow looks beautiful as ever, but again the trek has been freshly showered, so it might be slippery and dangerous. And also, it would be difficult to move on snow during rains.
